Abstract

The effect of Saccharomyces cerevisiae BTM-1 as a biological inducer on the antiadhesive activity of surface-active substances produced by Acinetobacter calcoaceticus IMV B-7241 against Candida yeasts was investigated. The addition of live or inactivated S. cerevisiae cells or culture supernatant enhanced the antiadhesive activity of surfactants synthesized using purified and crude glycerol. Treatment of steel, tile, and linoleum surfaces with these surfactants reduced the adhesion of Candida albicans D-6 and Candida tropicalis PE-2 by 1.1–1.7-fold compared with preparations obtained without an inducer. The results demonstrate the potential of S. cerevisiae as a biological inducer for enhancing the antiadhesive properties of microbial surfactants
