Abstract
The effect of the competitive bacterium Enterobacter cloacae C-8 on the antiadhesive properties of surface-active substances (SAS) produced by Acinetobacter calcoaceticus IMV B-7241 against yeast cells of the genus Candida was investigated. The addition of live or inactivated E. cloacae C-8 cells to the producer culture medium enhanced the antiadhesive activity of the synthesized SAS. Treatment of ceramic, steel, and linoleum surfaces with these preparations reduced the adhesion of Candida albicans D-6 and Candida tropicalis PE-2 compared with SAS obtained without an inducer. The most pronounced reduction in yeast adhesion was observed for SAS synthesized using crude glycerol and E. cloacae C-8 cells. The results demonstrate the potential of biological inducers for regulating the antiadhesive properties of microbial SAS
