Abstract

The anti-adhesive activity of surfactants synthesized by Acinetobacter calcoaceticus IMV B-7241 in the presence of live and inactivated cells and supernatant of Saccharomyces cerevisiae BTM-1 as biological inducers during cultivation on purified and crude glycerol was investigated. At a surfactant concentration of 22 μg/mL, treatment of steel, tile, and linoleum reduced the adhesion of Candida tropicalis PE-2 and Candida albicans D-6 cells, with adhesion being on average 30% lower in the presence of live or inactivated S. cerevisiae cells compared with the effect of surfactants synthesized without an inducer. The results demonstrate the potential for enhancing the anti-adhesive activity of microbial surfactants using S. cerevisiae as a biological inducer regardless of the degree of glycerol purification
