Abstract
Optimization of the biosynthesis parameters of silver nano-particles (AgNPs) using microorganisms is a key step toward enhancing the efficiency, stability, and functional properties of the resulting nanostructures. The biosynthesis process depends on various parameters, the adjustment of which allows for more effective production and improved characteristics of AgNPs. Scientific findings related to the influence of cultivation me-dia, temperature, pH, silver nitrate concentration, biosynthesis duration, and the type of biological material on the properties of silver nanoparticles was systematized. The temperature range for AgNPs biosynthesis varied between 27 and 70 °C, with most microbial strains showing optimal activity between 30 and 40 °C. Higher temperatures (55—70 °C) tended to produce smaller nanoparticles but may reduce the stability of certain bio-molecules. pH significantly affected the electrochemical activity of the reaction mixture: acidic conditions slowed down nanopar-ticle formation, while alkaline conditions (pH 8—11) promoted the faster formation of more uniform and stable AgNPs. The optimal concentration of silver nitrate used as a precursor for biosynthesis was generally 1-2 mM, although higher concentra-tions have also been reported to be effective. The biosynthesis duration depends on the type of biological matrix: in intracellular biosynthesis using biomass, AgNPs can form within 1—4 hours, whereas extracellular synthesis using cell-free extracts or super-natants may take up to 144 hours. The choice of biological sy-stem determines not only the rate of nanoparticle formation but also their size and morphology. The findings summarized in this review can be used to select optimal biosynthesis conditions for silver nanoparticles depending on their intended application.
