In conditions of market competition, individualization of wine making is provided not only by the use of trade marks. A substantial role is played by special characteristics of the product connected with geographical location of its production. Natural or human factors characteristic for special geographical location predetermine special characteristics of wine which distinguish it from homogeneous products of other producers. When making their choice, consumers of such a product should take into account its origin. As European winemakers face greater competition from new producers, the problem of geographical names as the basis of marketing strategy of European companies, it is the matter of negotiations between the European Union and third countries. Thus, in conditions of free trade zone creation between Ukraine and the EU, the conflict arises between the names of Ukrainian trade marks and European geographical names. It is also necessary to mention, that winemakers do not have legal rights to use registered names, because Ukrainian requirements contradict international legislation and it is Ukraine that is interested in the creation of the free trade zone. If the Ukrainian producers really want to take advantage of all possibilities the free trade zone provides and become wealthy and pasperous, they must satisfy all the requirements of its creation. However, the problem of geographical sings and names protection of Ukrainian wine products is only a top of the iceberg. After becoming a member of the World Trade Organization and with the prospect of creation of free trade zone with the EU, the Ukrainian wine market must become a part of the world wine market with more fierce competition.
