Using films for social and emotional learning

Abstract

This article reviews the general approaches to implementing the social and emotional learning model in higher education. The model’s merits are discussed in relation to foreign language training because of its effectiveness in reaching academic and non-academic objectives. The paper describes a film-based framework to encourage the development of a wide range of socioemotional competencies in response to emerging challenges. У статті вказані загальні підходи до впровадження соціально-емоційного навчання у вищу освіту. Переваги моделі розглядаються у викладанні іноземної мови з огляду на її ефективність у досягненні навчальних та неакадемічних цілей. Стаття описує механізм використання художніх фільмів, який уможливлює розвиток низки соціально-емоційних компетентностей у відповідь на посталі виклики.
