    Integrating sustainable development goals into teaching EFL

    Education for sustainable development (ESD) is UNESCO’s education sector response to the urgent and dramatic challenges the planet faces. To contain global warming before it reaches catastrophic levels means addressing environmental, social and economic issues in a holistic way. UNESCO’s ESD for 2030 education programme aims to bring about the personal and societal transformation that is necessary to change course. In the present study, the researchers aim to shed light to different ways to spread sustainable development into the curriculum, by specifically focusing on the ways to integrate environmental issues to EFL (English as a Foreign Language) lessons for university students.

    Project-based learning as a way of formation of ecological competence of students

    One of the effective teaching methods, forms of organization of the educational process and educational technology in the formation of environmental competence both at the level of school and university education is recognized as project-based learning. Project-based learning is learning through the inclusion of students in project activities. Also through the project approach a student has the opportunity to work a group to develop social skills and especially skills in collaborating with others.

    Learning a foreign language is an enriching experience. It encompasses much more than grammar and conversation exercises from textbooks. Not only is language a communication system, it is also a cultural code which transports complex information about cultural norms, values, traditions and rules of conduct. Foreign language competencies therefore enable deeper insights into other cultures and lifestyles.
