    Concentrate management for nf brine of ground water using electromembrane (ED and EDI) processes

    In this study, treatment of ground water used in a fruit juice company located in İzmir city by integrated nanofiltration (NF), electrodialysis (ED) and electrodeionization (EDI) methods was studied. For this purpose, the ground water obtained from the plant was treated by using two different NF membranes (NF-90 and NF-270). The brine from both NF membranes was fed to ED stack. The ED diluate was further treated by EDI process for ultrapure water production.

    Application of membrane filtration processes in whey processing

    Membrane separation techniques are extensively used in the dairy industry, especially in cheese whey processing. In this study, the potential of an integrated membrane process based on ultrafiltration (UF) and nanofiltration (NF) was investigated for fractionation of whey components, such as proteins, fat, lactose and mineral salts.

    Removal of As(V) compounds from water using OPMN-P nanofiltration membrane

    High efficiency of removal of As(V) compounds from water with nanofiltration technique was shown. OPMN-P nanofiltration membrane was involved to investigations, which were performed within a wide range of pH,concentration of background electrolyte, operating pressure and permeate recovery (25-90%). The rejection has been found to reach 93-98%. As shown, the membrane is promising for water purification from arsenic, the maximal contaminant level is 10 μg/dm3. As(III) has to be oxidized preliminarily down to As (V) using photocatalysis.

    Treatment of dairy effluent model solutions by nanofiltration and reverse osmosis

    Dairy industry generates a large amount of wastewaters that have high concentrations and contain milk components. Membrane processes have been shown to be convenient for wastewater treatment recovering milk components present in wastewaters and producing treated water. Materials and methods. The experiments were carried out in an unstirred batch sell using nanofiltration membranes OPMN-P (ZAO STC “Vladipor”, Russian Federation) and reverse osmosis membranes NanoRo, ZAO (“RM Nanotech”, Russian Federation). The model solutions of dairy effluents – diluted skim and whole milk were used. The nanofiltration and reverse osmosis membranes showed the same permeate flux during the concentration of model solutions of dairy effluents. The reason of this was likely membrane fouling with feed components. The fouling indexes indicated the fouling factor that was higher for RO. The higher permeate quality was obtained with RO membranes. The NF permeate containing up to 0.4 g/L of lactose and 0.75 g/L of mineral salts can be discharged or after finishing trеatment (e.g. RO or other) can be reused. The obtained NF and RO retentate corresponds to milk in composition and can be used for non-food applications or as feed supplement for animals.The studied RO and NF membranes can be used for concentration of dairy effluents at low pressure. They showed better performance and separation characteristics comparing with data of other membranes available in the literature.

    Порівняльний аналіз процесів нанофільтрації та зворотнього осмосу при розділенні молочної сироватки

    В даній роботі наведені результати експериментальних досліджень процесів розділення молочної сироватки нанофільтрацією та зворотнім осмосом. Визначені їх основні переваги та недоліки, що обумовлюють вибір відповідного процесу при переробці молочної сироватки. Встановлено, що за допомогою нанофільтрації можна частково знесолити розчин, а зворотнім осмосом – отримати фільтрат (пермеат) з незначним вмістом розчинених сполук. This paper presents the results of experimental studies of whey separation by nanofiltration and reverse osmosis . The main advantages and disadvantages of these processes were determined that influence the choice of appropriate process at whey separation . It was found out that due to nanofiltration we can partially demineralize solution and after reverse osmosis we can obtain permeate with the small amount of solutes .

    Determination of nanofiltrated membrane mass transfer resistance after separation of whey

    This paper presents the results of experimental studies to determine the mass transfer resistance of the new nanofiltrated membrane OPMN-P (JSC STC "Vladipor", Russia), and its mass transfer resistance after whey separation at the pressure of 2.5 MPa. It is found out that the value of mass transfer resistance formed by the interaction of solutes with the membrane is 5 times bigger than the resistance of the new membrane.
